Two More Poems

Here are two more poems I wrote for my Poetry Book.

Blue

Blue is the feeling you get when you’re sad
Blue is the color of the clear and cloudy sky
Blue is the sound of the Chicago subway
Blue is the taste of a sweet blueberry
Blue is the color of my favorite denim jeans
Blue is the sound of a canoe paddling through shallow water
Blue is a color that’s a part of me.

The Dream

I dream of a time where everyone is kind
I dream of a world filled with people I love
I dream of a ride on an elephant’s back
I dream of seeing turtles hatch
I dream of a trip to London
I dream of a ride in a hot air balloon
I dream of family I can call my own
I dream of a husband who loves me for me
I dream of a house filled with small children
I dream of seeing the northern lights
I dream of time where I can knit and quilt
I dream of a chance to meet my favorite author
I dream of seeing my art in a gallery
I dream of changing someone else’s life
These are my dreams
This is me.

Coil Projects Before First Firing

Here are two coil projects I have been working on in my ceramics class. The first is a cookie jar and the second is a dish for my dog's food. It says Woof! Play! Fetch! with a bone, tennis ball, and fire hydrant.  They haven't been fired yet and so of course they aren't glazed yet, so consider these the before photos.

Let Us Not Forget

Today my heart goes out to the people who were lost and the families torn apart during the attack on 9/11. I very young when this happened, but I still remember vividly. I was in first grade. Living in Wyoming and being in such a young grade, the elementary school didn't do much with it, but my family did. When I came home from school the news was rolling on the television. My mom was on the telephone. She turned to me and told me to hang my backpack up and come sit down. She was talking to my Grandma. My great uncle was in the pentagon that day. He worked as an intelligence and had a meeting that day. We didn't know if he would be okay. I remember how many times the phone rang at our house, information being fed when Uncle Hal checked in saying he was okay. I remember how happy I was when it was all said and done and he was okay but at the same time I was sad for all the people who's families did not make it out. Today I ask that we remember the things that happened. We remember the lives lost, and we don't forget how much this has changed the world we live in today.  post signature

A little house I made for a swap once. Another really old piece.

A Book of Poems

For one of my classes I am writing a book of poems. As I go through I will be posting them as I write them so you can kind of see what it will look like in the end. Here's the first few I've written to get this started.

The Whispering Wind

The wind whispers in my ear
It tells me I’m not alone
The daisies wave their little hands
And tell me hello.
The leaves on the trees whistle at me
They sing my favorite song.
The baby fawn prances with me
Dances with me, and frolics with me
These beings are a part of me,
They sing a sweet melody
Portraying the voice of God,
Who says to me,
“You are beautiful.”

The Ocean
(a Haiku)

A blue, blue ocean
Waves crashing along the rocks
Summer breeze I feel

It takes me to a place
Where I set my mind afloat
Worries wash away

The blue ocean sings
A tranquil song of peace
I let it take me

The End of War
(an alphabet poem)

Among the leaves the bugs hum
Before their king they march,
Charging enemies across the field
Doing as they’re told

Epiphany comes to them,
Follow orders? NO!
Going forth among their friends
Holding their heads high
Inflicting a code of peace

Joyous victory, No defeat
King to blame
Life to be

Imagine

Here's an ATC I did years ago, just found a picture thought I'd share. I'll be posting some art from the past and some newer pieces as I get them finished.

A thought for the day:

As we pass through the trials of life, let us keep an eternal perspective, let us not complain, let us become even more prayerful, let us serve others, and let us forgive one another.

Abstract Tile: In Progress

Here's an abstract tile I have in progress for my ceramics class.

I'll keep posting weekly drawings and other stuff, so look forward to more art. I'll still do the usual book reviews and stuff but now that I'm actively taking art classes again you'll see more of that.

Keep on keeping on,
Quincy
