Thanksgiving. I am Grateful for many things.

I know I haven't posted in quite some time, but I have decided that I am no longer going to apologize for life. Life gets in the way sometimes, in the way of lots of things, including making blog posts. But I feel that living my life the way I want to, and enjoying the blessings I have, is much more important than pleasing blog followers. Sure, I wish I posted more often, but in reality, it's not that important in the larger scheme of things.
That being said, I would like to make this post about Thanksgiving. I am grateful for many many things in my life. And one of those things is my trials and tribulations. I have been going through a lot of trials of late, and sometimes I feel I can't do it. It really is hard, but I know that Heavenly father will only give me what he knows I can handle. I recently decided to drive the half hour to the YSA ward 22 miles away, for a fast and testimony meeting. I really felt the spirit during that meeting. I was sitting in my pew, and they were about to close the meeting, but I felt prompted that I needed to bear my testimony on trials. I quickly got up and went to the pulpit, just as the bishop was standing up to announce the closing hymn and benediction. As I approached the pulpit, he sat down and allowed me to bear my testimony. When I stood in front of the microphone, I was silent for a moment, because I didn't know what to say, but Heavenly Father knew what I needed to say. I bore my testimony on the power of trials, and how really they do suck. But that Heavenly Father has a perfect plan for each of us. We chose to come to this earth knowing that there would be trials that would be hard to overcome. But we chose this life anyway. He knows the things that we can handle, and will not give us more. After I sat down, the bishop stood once again to announce the closing of the meeting. And he was crying. After the close of the meeting, he came up to me and thanked me for bearing my testimony. He told me that he felt the spirit so strongly and that he could tell that my words had come from Heavenly Father. And then he gave me the back cover of the July 2014 Ensign. The page had a beautiful picture of blue flowers, and on the bottom was a little excerpt from a talk by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf titled "Grateful in any Circumstances". This is what it read.
How can I maintain a spirit of gratitude, even in times of trial?
"We can choose to be grateful, no matter what. This type of gratitude transcends whatever is happening around us. It surpasses disappointment, discouragement, and despair. It blooms just as beautifully in the icy landscape of winter as it does in the pleasant warmth of summer. When we are grateful to God in our circumstances, we can experience gentle peace in the midst of tribulation.... In the cold of bitter sorrow, we can experience the closeness and warmth of heaven's embrace.... How much of life do we we miss by waiting to see the rainbow before thanking God that there is rain? Being grateful in times of distress does not mean that we are pleased with our circumstances. It does mean that through the eyes of faith we look beyond our present-day challenges. This is not a gratitude of the lips but of the soul."
I am so thankful for all of the trials in my life. Yes, they are hard. Yes, they can be discouraging. But in this life, they happen. And in this life, we grow from them.
I would like to leave you with this video. I hope you all had a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving. I know I did.

Next Week Is Dr. Seuss' Birthday! Let's Celebrate!

Dr. Seuss' 110th Birthday is March 2nd, and I'm afraid if I don't post now, I'll forget! So Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss. You were a great philosopher that will always be a part of my life. I'd like to celebrate by sharing some great quotes of his that have helped me in my life.  There are 35 so just keep reading.

 1. Today you are you that is truer than true, there is no-one alive who is youer than you.

2. Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

3. Why fit in when you were born to stand out?

4. Today was good, today was fun, tomorrow is another one.

5. You'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.

6. Today is your day, your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!
7. Think and wonder, wonder and think.

8. You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose.

9. Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.

10. It is better to know how to learn than to know.

11. The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

 12.  A person's a person, no matter how small.

13.  I meant what I said and I said what I meant!

14. Only You can control your future.

15. Be awesome! Be a book nut!

16. Be who you are and say what you mean, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

17. It's opener out there, in the wide open air.

18. Today I shall behave as if it's the day I will be remembered.

 19.  Will you succeed? Yes you will indeed! 99 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.

20. From there to here and here to there, there are funny things everywhere.

21. Step with care, and great tact. And remember that life's a great balancing act.

22. Unless someone like you cares an awful whole lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not.
23. You're on your own and you know what you know, you are the one who'll decide where to go.

24. Just tell yourself duckie, you're really quite lucky.

25. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.

26. If things start happening, don't worry, don't stew, just go right along, you'll start happening too.

27. I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny, but we can have lots of good fun that is funny.

28. It's fun to have fun, but you have to know how.

29. With your head full of brains, and your shoes full of feet, you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

30. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!

31. Oh the things you can find if you don't stay behind!

32. Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory.

33. So open your mouth lad, for every voice counts.

34. Think left and think right and think low and think high, oh the things you'll think up if only you try.

35. You'll be on your way up, you'll be seeing great sights! You'll join the high flyers who soar to high heights.

Mixed Media Painting

Here is another art piece I recently finished. Okay not really finished, the girl is done, but I think I'm going to do some sort of background and then frame her. I took a class with Claudi Rossi Studios and learned how to paint a mixed media girl. I really enjoyed the workshop and am so happy with my girl! Please go check out Claudia Rossi Studios on youtube and check out her website and facebook page too. She's a wonderful lady, eccentric, but lovely. Okay here's the picture of my "finished" mixed media girl.
